About this role
PayPal is a global payments company connecting merchants and consumers across roughly 200 markets. This role sits in the Checkout Engineering team, building and shipping the backend services behind PayPal's checkout experiences for buyers and merchants.
What you will do
- Own features and services end to end across the software development lifecycle
- Find and fix performance bottlenecks using monitoring, logging and metrics
- Write clean, secure, scalable and reliable backend code with docs and automation
- Improve availability, security, scalability and observability
- Strengthen automated testing and CI/CD build and deploy processes
- Review code and give constructive feedback to teammates
- Work with product, design, analytics and other partners on new features
- Take part in program planning and roadmap discussions
What the employer expects
- 1+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent
- 2+ years building large-scale, performant applications
- Strong in a server-side language such as Java, C++, C#, Go, Python, Kotlin or Ruby
- Familiar with relational and non-relational databases
- Experience building resilient backends with REST, GraphQL, Serverless or SOA
- Familiar with AI coding tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot or Cursor
- Comfortable with version control and agile practices
